Ah, reading. What can I say, I love to read.
I remember very clearly, I was given an old, tattered copy of a book by Richard Bachman called Thinner. It was a pretty quick read, but I loved it. The story was so vivid and that ending was heartbreaking.
Well, come to find out, Richard Bachman is actually Stephen King.
Whaaaaaa–? I know, right?!
Anyway, not long after that, I got super sick and missed a bunch of school. My mom brought me home the recently released complete and uncut behemoth of a novel, The Stand. Weighing in at over 1,100 pages, it was a daunting task but it kept me engaged and I was a King fan ever since. It got to the point that I would expect the most recent Stephen King book for my birthday each year for many, many years (that’s how most of my collection was built.)
Since then, I have broadened my horizons and read other author’s works, such as Dean Koontz, Tony Hillerman, Ray Bradbury, and more.
In 2024, I downloaded Bookmory and made a commitment to find an hour to read every day, which ultimately would have led me to my year-long goal of reading a book a week, or 52 books for the year.
I got into the first week of February before that fell apart.
BUT, in that first six weeks, I did start 7 books, finishing 6 of them, so I WAS on pace…
I didn’t even try in 2025, until December when I picked up a copy of Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. I decided to log it in Bookmory and have been tracking my reading ever since. I haven’t been reading daily like I want, but have been pretty reasonably consistent, finishing four books since I started the app back up in early December.
Friday’s posts will be all about reading, and will alternate between me talking about a book I’m reading, and Grimm showcasing an item out of my collection.
Looking forward to it!
